Explanation: Julius Caesar, of conqueror and dictator fame, made two expeditions to Britannia - then a distant and nearly unknown land to the Romans! He landed multiple legions and auxiliaries along with a massive fleet to probe the new and exotic land FOR ROME!
... other than some scientific measurements taken, including measuring the length of the day compared to the Mediterranean, not much was gained. The native Britons were defeated and promised to send tribute, but they had very little to offer to begin with, and once Caesar left Britain for good, they simply shrugged and went about their lives instead of sending what little wealth they had to far-off strangers.
Ultimately, after Caesar's second departure, no further attempts were made to conquer Britain for around 100 years. Britain was not a particularly impressive land, other than the impressively bad weather (which caused trouble for Caesar's fleet), and while the news of a Roman army landing in distant Britain was received with excitement in Rome for its novelty, it was also acknowledged that it was a pretty barren land, not at all prosperous and lootable, unlike the barbarians in Gaul!
