Explanation: Augustus, the first Emperor of the Roman Empire, would reach that position after years of campaigning and politicking. Augustus was an astute, cunning, and ruthless politician, and leveraged every advantage he could to climb the ladder of power during a time of chaos in the Late Roman Republic.
... but he never would've gotten as far as he did without his right-hand man, Marcus Agrippa. Augustus, you see, was not much of a military man, being a sickly little fellow who was often indisposed during major battles. Agrippa, on the other hand, was a competent, tireless, and perhaps most importantly, loyal general to Augustus's cause who had been with him from essentially the start of his climb to power. Without Agrippa, Augustus very well may have been crushed by Augustus's military rivals without any opportunity to show off his cutthroat political chops.
Augustus actually very highly valued Agrippa, even making Agrippa his heir, and the two would remain close friends until Agrippa's death by natural causes. But in the modern day, we generally remember Augustus first, and Agrippa second, if at all.
