The idea of sending humans to other planets is ridiculous until we solve core problems here on Earth first

Climate change will destroy our quality of life if we do not rapidly invest in more efficient ways of doing things like nuclear power and electric vehicles. Our priorities are completely broken. I firmly believe at this point that ocean fertilization in specific locations is one of the only options we have left to rapidly mitigate climate change.

There’s no reason for this to be either-or. Space exploration and science is a tiny fraction of the money needed to fight climate change, coming from a different place with different priorities by different people. You will see zero benefit if you trade on off against the other.

Space isn’t what is stopping us from transitioning to a more climate friendly society, it’s mostly politics (at least in the us)

It's people satisfied with the status quo. I don't eat beef, I own an electric car, I don't have kids. I know I'm not the problem.

Before we resort to messing with the ocean chemistry to compensate for some of the damage we've done by messing with the atmospheric chemistry, first let's try not burning fossil fuels.

We are trying, look at the growth of renewables and electric vehicles. The idea that we can't also learn more about leveraging the ocean to help sequester more carbon dioxide. Read about how the Saharan desert blows iron dust across the Atlantic every year. We can do both.

Nobody but Elon Musk and his like thinks we'll be able to move to another planet before we destroy the this planet. Everybody else is doing science but in space.
