i've worked with lots of drummers and never had one ask anyone help set up. carry stuff, sure, but nothing beyond that
I was theatre manager, and acting technical director for a theatre, I had 1 drum guy he was the only one to help with anything drums, except placing mics. I always made sure he was scheduled if we were using in house back line. I instructed all of my stage crew to place anything drums near the riser, then never touch it again.
I had one drummer ask me to set up his kit for him. I told him, I will place your mics after you, or your drum tech sets up for kit.

lol that's a red flag. sounds like he already tried getting his bandmates to do his job, if he's asking the venue people to do it
I do wonder if he was joking because we set up everyone else's stuff, but the drums were all stacked in front of the riser.
