Super Monkey Ball 2

1d 6h ago by lemmy.world/u/MinguPingu in bikinibottomtwitter

Half my entire saved music collection is video game music.

Katamari Damacy

Naaaa na na na na na naa

I wanna roll you up into my life

Ice cold take.

Portal 2 OST is a banger.

A hot take then?

I can never get the slang right it seems

To be fair the term has been overused recently, often in the wrong context. Some people post "hot take" when it's the least controversial, blatantly obvious take, so I can see how you might think it was the other way around.

The Friendly Faith Plate...

Nier and Clair Obscur have fantastic soundtracks

Bro is missing out.

FTL: Faster Than Light

Sanctum

Bastion

Age of Empires II

Core Keeper

Sonic CD

Clair Obscur

Screamer

All fantastic soundtracks

Clair Obscure's music is so good, almost every single one with lyrics is in my normal everyday playlist. Most VG music doesn't get that honor and stays in their own specific playlist. Having lyrics is a big plus for me.

Transistor's main character is a singer and the soundtrack is basically meant to be her songs. There are several with lyrics too that really are just songs and not backgrounds to the game.

Sanctum Soundtrack in Satisfactory boombox while mindlessly crouch jumping through my factory. I could do that all day.

I refuse to buy Satisfactory until Sanctum 3 comes out as my personal protest to how long it's been taking, maybe I'm just being too stubborn tho lol. But it's been 13 years...

FTL's music is just really nice and I should go reinstall it, thanks!

ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND!
GOT PLACES TO GO!
GOT TO FOLLOW MY RAINBOW!

C418

i have it on vinyl...

Me too

My brother really hasn't listened to the music of our lord Mick Gordon's DOOM & DOOM ETERNAL

Jet Set Radio's soundtrack is absolutely banging!

Hellooo Allison!

animal crossing new horizons

stardew valley

witcher 3 +dlc

mario kart 8

tloz botw

hollow knight

the last of us

night in the woods

duck tales

castlevania

lelele lele

wind's howling

Journey

Ori and the blind forest

Ori and the Will o the Wisps

Frostpunk

Total War The Three Kingdoms

Diablo 2 OST is an OG IMO. I also spent a lot of time with the Oblivion OST running.

Current favourite is the Tunic OST, and I haven't even played the game (I don't have the patience for "git gud").

Don't let the difficulty of TUNIC keep you from the game. There are difficulty sliders in the options menu including god mode.

The game isn't that hard outside of the bosses.

It's one of my top 5 games ever.

The OST is phenomenal, but not something I would listen to outside of the game. For me, it's more atmospheric in the game.

It seems the reduced damage option was added at some point after its release, which might explain why I didn't know about it. Maybe I'll give it a go, then.

D2 has a special place of nostalgia in my heart. The first games I ever encountered was watching my dad play D2 and Far Cry when I was a kid. Rogue from the D2 OST has been etched into my neural pathways in a way nothing can ever come close to.

Surprised anything by Supergiant Games isn't mentioned here, their soundtracks rock! Bastion and Hades really come to mind.

I love the song when you start each run in Hades in that first hallway

Hotline Miami is a banger

I thought this was going to be BFG Division or something but I'm pretty happy with what I experienced.

Buddy must be trolling. That or he only plays sports games

I don't see Chrono Cross mentionned, best one IMO.

Not sure what the original poster of the meme (not the op here, but who did the meme originally) is implying. There is, for certain, excellent music in games and also series/movies (originals strictly speaking). Some games I didn't even play but I love to listen to the music because is just that good. Also, a lot of games and TV stuff made sure the more classic approach does have new music, because if we were stuck to the "originals" i would for sure not even touch it.

Its not that different from movie sound tracks.

And I've always thought listening to movie soundtracks is weird too.

Its just music made with a goal in mind. Not weird at all

A goal in mind? What do you mean? I'm not saying I don't like music during movies, but buying film scores and listening to them on their own always seemed odd to me.

Titanic or gladiator. Listen to those. Its just music really

O Brother Where Art Thou? has an incredible soundtrack.

It does, but that's a musical. The songs in that movie are just regular songs. It's like a mix tape of old bluegrass stuff.

Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack to Quake... And I still have that in my music collection

Or Mick Gordans Doom. I havent even played that version of doom but have listened to the OST multiple times.

Portal 2!

there's water in the ocean?

Nier Automata still is in my rotation.

Nothing like having an existential crisis when "City Ruins" or

Tap for spoiler

Weight of the World

comes on while I'm on my way to work

This mf hasn't listened to Destiny 2's "Journey" and it shows

They've been pretty good lately

If they're good, I cleaned my whole house to the doom soundtrack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMmTrCnCMfI Though honestly a lot of games have amazing soundtracks. I just currently lean into metal.

God, they screwed Mick Gordon so hard on Eternal and it's just tragic. DOOM 2016 is truly the gold standard for game soundtracks and really kicked off the popularity of the genre...

Did not find it in the comments til now: The Metal Hellsinger Soundtrack is great.

I have a playlist of video game soundtracks playing quietly 24-7. It keeps my cats company when I'm gone and it's nice to have some background noise when I'm home. It's all music I own and there's over a thousand songs in there.

Outer Wilds, but only when I want to feel a bittersweet melancholy 😅

I recently just played Demon Tides and the soundtrack was made by 2 Mello. Good game and good music

2 Mello is so good. I go through their whole discog once in a while and struggle to find a track that isn't excellent

The Bloodborne OST is a masterpiece.

As a kid pre internet times I'd take my talk boy (the cassette recorder thing from home alone) and record the soundtracks as they came out of the TV. I'd have to ask my brothers to get to certain parts of the game so I could get that track. The quality was garbage but I could listen to Chrono trigger on the school bus. I'd just have to use imagination to hear as a symphony. No lyrics no playlist but that's about as good as I could get.

Some of y'all have never played any GOOD EA games, and it shows.

https://youtu.be/e3YzmjmAGoI

EA owns it now but that was a Westwood Studios game. Then EA proceeded to ruin the entire franchise.

I couldn't remember who owned it when it came out..... Now I'm questioning if the Need for Speed franchise was made by EA or slowly ruined by them.....

Donkey Kong Country 1,2&3

Persona 5

The Noita OST is such a bop. How could I not?

Yeah we all know they went downhill after the chiptune era.

What the fuuuuck? I need to fight this Joey clown.

I listen to JSR and PSO all the time.

Under the Ocean

Monkey Target 2

Mic drop

I listen to the Disco Elysium soundtrack by Sea Power consistently. It's such a great album in its own right.

If you've got the original PS1 disc and the right software, it's not that difficult to extract the soundtracks from some Playstation games. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has some awesome tracks.

how to ask for music recommendations on the internet:

Lil uzi vert sampled a Super Monkey Ball 2 track once

I remember in high school I was starting to get into music. "Classic rock" from my parents, metal from my cousins, pop punk from other places. Nothing too esoteric. When I was talking about music one day, one of my friends was like "You wanna see my music collection??" I went sure, and he opened it up. All video game soundtracks. Final Fantasy, mostly.

I'm sorry to say that was a young teenager I was a shit and made fun. I wouldn't do that now, but I still feel a little bad about it. I very rarely would pick a video game soundtrack to listen to, but it's such a harmless joy I should've been nicer.

This person clearly never listened to the Halo soundtracks (specifically Martin O'Donnell's for Halo CE through Reach)

Who needs the whole Final Fantasy soundtrack when you got Fierce Battle?

You misspelled Clash on the Big Bridge.

I dunno.... That's definitely a banger. https://youtu.be/-rMPAjH5vzE

But Fierce Battle... https://youtu.be/FqvQ-rfucyc that part at 0:40 is pure frisson. There's a version in 5 and 6. Different compositions though. I like the FF6 version better.

Nobuo loves metal. 🤘

Borderlands 3 & Doom 2016 are both great, but I feel like that's slightly unfair since both are explicitly mixed to be albums and use the dynamic atmospheric music from the games as the basis for the songs - none of the tracks actually show up in game as they are on the album (with a couple weird exceptions in borderlands like Digby Vermouth).

As I understand it, pretty much all modern "video game soundtracks" do it the same way - the game's composer writes an album based on the music from the game.

Which is kind of a shame. I actually like a lot of the atmospheric stuff in Doom 2016, the combat music is awesome but I also love having more ambient pieces run for hours.

The Sims 1 OST is an absolute must for elegant relaxation!

Dark Souls 1 - Firelink shrine is nice to listen to when reading boring work stuff

I played my mom some jazzy ocarina of time covers. She had no idea what she was listening to and she loved it.

Plus bit brigade's mega man 2 album is sick. Mom didn't like that though.

Warframe and Atomic Heart both have killer sound tracks!

Burnout takedown

Oblivion

Skyrim

Minecraft is chef's kiss.

You kids these days with your video game music! ...You're alright.

[my zoomer sons have gotten me addicted some of the game music the good folks mention here.]

Straftat has some really good ambient jungle as soundtrack. Actually just bought it today on bandcamp lol

Also the doom (2016) soundtrack is just exceptional

Check out the Loop Hero soundtrack, it's such a banger

Okay yeah, Award Ceremony makes me feel like I just woke up from a great sleep.

*What gives this game the right to have such good fucking music?

Ever since I played Chrono Trigger I've had Peaceful days as my ringtone. https://youtu.be/wYp_UsDzgxM still like the song.

rainwave.cc pretty much every day for the last 3 decades

Bro you like Super Monkey Ball? I knew I liked you man, bring it in

My Game soundtrack playlist is 6.5h long.

I just really enjoy Persona’s soundtracks, okay?! They won an award for it ya know! ;-P

Tropico!

Well, the Life is strange and Stray Soundtracks took a lot of effort.

Monochroma had a really good soundtrack by Gevende.

FZero GX and Cel Damage soundtracks are way better than they have any right to be.

Been hooked on God of War Ragnarok soundtrack since I finished the DLC a week ago, it’s amazing

Almost the entirety of my physical music collection is game soundtracks. I like to put them on while working or doing chores. It's more relaxing than regular music for me.

Yeah I do 🤘

Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack for American McGee's Alice, and it is amazing!

It's my focus music.

No of course not. I'm a geek but I have standards.
