I made a synthwave flying game you can play in a browser

5d 13h ago by lemmy.zip/u/unit327 in games from geoicarus.net

One of my playtesters is better than me at the game and top of all the leaderboards, please help me humble him.

Doesn't seem to work on Firefox android. Just a still image on clicking the link

It "works" on my Android Firefox, but the desktop experience is much better.

Do you get the progress bar at all or does it not show up?

On android it can take a long time for it to first load without much feedback, as it has to decompress some binary stuff. Maybe give it a little longer. But honestly maybe just wait to play it on a computer as the touchscreen controls kinda suck anyway (sorry).

In case it doesn't ever load, what version of android and firefox? Android 13 and firefox 150.0 works for me.

Oh, I left it for a while and it loaded. There wasn't a moving progress bar or animation, so I thought it was frozen.

Played a bit. Hard on the phone !

Worked on android Firefox for me once i enabled JavaScript.

Well that's fun as hell, even on my phone. Love that the city lights rise with how fast your speed is. Will have to try the desktop next, but awesome job!

This sounds awesome! I used to be a professional qa tester. I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but how should I submit any bugs you?

I used touch screen because I found this on my phone...I will now try it on a computer. Was only able to crash and escape the map so far.

Yeah touch screen is there to make it more accessible but it isn't the ideal way to play. You can also plug in (or bluetooth) a gamepad and it will work.

I completed all levels, you already have a hacker no way is Celyk that good already! 🙃

Glad you enjoyed them, I'll have to get busy making some more!

Celyk is better at the game than I am despite the ridiculous number of hours I've spent testing it during development. Unfortunately I know him and he's just that good so I've got no excuse.

Just told my son his goal is to beat Celyk.

It can be done ;)

Just tried it on my phone, can't wait to try it on the computer as soon as I am in front of one!

Instead of touch controls, would using the gyro of the phone be a possibility?

Possible but I think it might be even worse than touch controls. Also as a browser game it might not have permission to lock your screen orientation so the game might end up rotating and flipping while you play.

What about tap and drag?

Wow tons of fun. The music, visuals, and gameplay all interacting makes it really immersive.

It does tske some time to load so be patient.

What the heck, this game is awesome! Excellent name as well, definitely an underappreciated art lol

Doesn't work in firefox.

Works for me

That's odd, I do all my dev and testing for it on firefox. What version and what OS?

148.0.2 (64-bit) on Windows 11.

The screen stays blank and refreshes non-stop until I close the tab.

Hmm, you could try a shift-F5 on the page just in case something has gone screwy with the caching. Otherwise try hitting F12 (firefox application menu->more tools->web developer tools) and copy paste some of the console logs or errors that you see so I can tell what is going on.

Looks like for some reason webgl is not available in your browser. Does this site work for you? https://get.webgl.org/

Nope seems like it's disabled somehow but I don't know how or why. Typical for me unfortunately. Thanks for checking it out anyway!

Anecdotally, I know that in my case I use librewolf and it by default disables webgl for privacy reasons. There was a toggle in the settings to turn it on. Unsure if that’s your issue or not but thought I’d mention it.

Really amazing game! Well done and thank you!

I’m wish the game looked like the picture.

It's literally a screenshot of the game, try one of the city based levels, or try the "deep fissure" level if you mean the bright daytime picture.

Cool game, love the name, wish to delete Unit Canyon from existence.

Edit: My apologies to Unit Canyon. It's better when not playing on a potato.

I was trying on my phone right now super fun, can't wait to get on the desktop and give it a go. Great job

Best game I've played in a long time.

I'll try with my hotas 😁

Okay, It was fun up until Deep Fissure then my machine started hiccuping a lot and the level became unplayable. May be my browser, but definitely not a hardware limitation. Curious if you have that experience on your end? I'm using Firefox.

Edit: Tried on Chrome, it was much smoother.

Deep fissure has an increased level of detail to fix some visible holes in the geometry, so that level is more performance heavy than the other ones.

3D browser games are generally less performant than running natively, and as you noticed unfortunately chrome is faster than firefox. The game still runs ok on my 2016 thinkpad with an igpu, though I have to turn off the vhs shader and drop the render scale to 0.5x.

Cool game

Very cool!!
