Spring has sprung at Chez Moi

It’s a little ritual at the house each spring. A bird will build a nest on top of the porch light at the front of my house and make little baby birds all spring. Last fall after mama bird abandoned the nest I decided to leave it.

My cat, Noodle, knows there’s a nest there and she watches it from her vantage point in the house. Yesterday I noticed that she was really interested in the nest and so I decided to check. Looks like a sparrow built on top of the abandoned nest and laid these very recently. So I’ll be checking periodically to see how she’s doing and hopefully be able to catch the moment they hatch.

It’s one of the more exciting things that happens around here.

Oh, how cool! I had a blackbird nest on my yard last year and I hope she comes back this year too.

Oooh, now this is kind of exciting. Will we get weekly progress updates?

If there’s sufficient interest, I can post periodic updates. I expect her to probably lay one or two more eggs and then it’s just a waiting game after that.

Nice! We also have birds who choose our house as a nesting spot every year. We have 3 nests that barn swallows reclaim every Spring. They set up shop about two weeks ago so we'll probably see some baby birds popping up before too long.

I've had some version of a pigeon try to build a nest on my house just outside the door, but because the dove family tends to build terrible nests I inevitably find the eggs splattered some day when I leave in the morning.

I don't miss reddit for much but those niche subs like stupiddovenests really come in clutch for those rare life occurrences.

That's so wholesome!

What a beautiful nest
