Well, the question is perhaps not as dumb as it seems, as cleaning personal typically is provided by a subcontractor nowadays and most likely doesn't know a thing about the actual business.

People walk up to the kitchen all the time and ask for the dumbest shit. "Can you give me an extra plate? Can I have some more forks and knives? Do you have any water cups back there?"

Not a dumb question unless you're also in uniform. I do contracting work in commercial spaces and I will get their customers coming up to me all the time asking for things. Like, yes I am doing some work here but that doesn't mean I work here.
