One man's stand against gas cars, and Trump

5h 54m ago by sh.itjust.works/u/FoxtrotDeltaTango in news from www.latimes.com

Your morning catch-up: A Californian's stand against gas cars, mystery deepens in the killing of a Caltech physicist and more big stories

I'm sorry but my local government all Democrats have directly led to skyrocketing costs of owning electric vehicles and trying to power them up. You literally cannot afford an electric vehicle in the PNW unless you make over 200k a year, it's insane now.

https://www.seattle.gov/city-light/residential-services/billing-information/rates

Base service charge per day: $0.4103 Energy per kWh: $0.1392

Typical EV: 0.35 kWh per mile Typical monthly miles: 700

So ($0.4103 x 30 days) + (0.35 kWh x 700 miles x $.1392) = ~$46 per month

Yep, gotta earn at least $200k to pay that whopper. And since gas for ICE cost more, you gotta make $400k to buy gas.

You missed the part about the extra fees, the carbon tax fee, the ev registration fee, the new ev road use fee, the exclusive ev parking fees, have I mentioned the new ev specific fee for new purchases?

Tldr; you missed a few fees.

Still cheaper then ICE cars

Carbon tax would be cheaper as long as the grid has a bit of renewables in it

Ev registration fee is supposed to make up for the gas tax for road infrastructure that EVs don't pay

< $12,000, 2019. And there's plenty more cheaper.

And I don't think any of those other fees justify the $200k figure. Especially with a $12k car that uses $50/month of electricity.

power them up...PNW

If you're talking California electricity prices, I get you --- those are pretty horrendous --- but Oregon and Washington electricity prices are pretty decent.

https://www.electricchoice.com/electricity-prices-by-state/

National average for residential electricity is $0.18/kWh. California is $0.34/kWh. Oregon is $0.16/kWh. Washington is $0.14/kWh.

Our rates in WA have gone up 66% in 4 years and is estimated to go up 30-40% in the next 4 years. There's also all the new fees exclusively for EVs.

In my state, republicans slapped on much higher EV registration fees but when democrats came into power, they just left them there. This pattern seems to mirror the national strategy.
