It's a bit ostentatious

7h 47m ago by piefed.world/u/The_Picard_Maneuver in whitepeopletwitter@sh.itjust.works from media.piefed.world

Placing PS1 that way is atrocious

PS2 also developed laser issues if used that way, I can't recall PS3

ps2 developed laser issues regardless. i've tuned and cleaned so many of those. should have charged but i liked my friends.

When it would wear out putting it like that would extend it's use before being repaired/replaced.

Some of us had to play ours upside down after the laser got all jank or something

Haha yup. My OG PlayStation only worked upside down.

Hell, the PS5 is shown vertical but with the stand in the horizontal configuration. The PS2 and PS4 also had stands available because they weren't stable on their side out of the box, and the systems aren't shown with them. Unsure about the PS3.

True, the real way was upside down because the laser wouldn't read the disc after a few years and it needed a little gravity boost to get closer.

Dubai in the early 80s.

This was my first console! We had the massive text to speech thing that went on top and mispronounced all the curse words we typed in.

Also my first console, though I don't remember a TTS module. The only thing we used the keyboard for was word scramble I think. I was very young at the time lol.

Still have no clue how my parents got one, or why. My guess is off the back of a truck.

Definitely did not have one of those. Thanks for the info!

Dubai architect: They’re on to us!

Quick, add in the worst car-centric road patterns imaginable.

The only one I ever owned was 2. I could never afford the others when they launched and didn't care enough once the price dropped because I had too much going on in life.

I wanted the PS5 but I think it's seen price hikes like many other electronics, right?

Costco sometimes has sales.

You can get a PS5 for around 300 or less on the used market locally

Yes. Every console since the Switch has only gone up in price.

I love the industrial design of the PS2 so much. It has all of that optimistic futurism look of the late 90s/early 2000s.

Similar reason for the 4. Loved it. The 5 just looks proper stupid in my opinion.

A pharmacist?

A PS2/PS4 look like a brutalist style government building and the PS5 looks like what this picture states. Some gaudy nouveau rich apartment building in the Middle East.

Or Seattle, this one is a little on the nose:

Ive owned and played 1, 2, 3.

By the time 4 was out I had a bangin gaming pc, always had a computer but never a top of the line like I did at around 2010.

Started all the way left and have had every one but the 5 pro.

Damn the first two were some halcyon days. The PS2 was my introduction to staying up and hitting the refresh button on some site called amazon to buy one at launch. I still remember the feeling of the buy going through.

Sigh.

I only bought the 4 and 5 new, but I collect retro games and have all 5 base models. I used to pick them up on eBay or at garage sales back in the day. I remember that feeling of winning a bid (I didn't have a lot of money for it, so it took a while).

Playstations weren't my consoles growing up - I went from Nintendo systems to Xbox, but I still played them a lot at friends' houses.

This angle really highlights that PS4 was the best design by far

there’s a slim ps2 knocking on your door right now

i’m still impressed by the ps5 design, i never would’ve thought a console could look pretentious

not for long

I hope 6 is another boxy one. They seem to alternate, curvy - boxy - curvy - boxy - curvy (maybe not the original PS, but there is a big circle on top you can’t see in this picture)

Yeah, I'd count the original as curvy for this pattern. It was never meant to stand up like this.

I had 1, 2 and 5. I even still have a PS2.

123 for mememe. When the PS4 was released, I found its performance and load times atrocious, and the PS4/ XBone turned off of consoles forever. I’ll forever have my 2600 to PS3/Xbox 360/Wii collection tho!

I was hella into ICO and SOTC, so when TLG was announced I was like "I'll wait on getting a PS3 until I can play that."

So I never had a PS3.

I never had a PS4 because... I don't really know 🤷‍♂️ I only feel like out of those two systems, I only have missed out on MGS4 because it's the only thing I still can not play even with a PS5 (emulating it does not work well on my system or I'd do that). Though that will change in the future since it's getting a remaster with a PC release.

I’ve only played MGS1, so I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on anything on the PS4 hahaha. I’d be very interested in playing MGS2-4 on the computer, though!

I just modded a PS2 with a 1tb of games on the internal hard drive. It's pretty cool.

Alright, they fucked up the scale on the 4, no way it's smaller than the 1

Definitely, it's a lower height than the PS1 but much wider/longer.

Could also be various shavers

Between my PS2, 3, and 5, I've got them all covered.

Sega master system II

well the skyscrapers look like gravestones yeah from out here

I've had them all (no pros) and probably won't be getting another, judging by the way the industry is going.

It's sad. I haven't played my ps5 very much... And I'm enjoying older games or indies on PC more than any new games that come out. The quality of AAA seems to have fallen so far.

While simultaneously increasing in price. Pay more, get less. No thanks!

literally

I was a PC gamer, but the PS3 was my first PS experience. I didn't like the controller.

Had a two first, skipped three, then had four and five

Beautiful memories on old systems.

The PS5 was my first console since the N64.

While I appreciate that Sony was trying to do interesting design, the choice of shitty plastic for its case defeats that attempt completely. Crappy plastic just isn't the medium to pull that off. I immediately bought a bracket so I could hang it under the rear of my desk so I wouldn't have to see it.
