Field Marshal Lord Richards, who... was the head of the UK's armed forces from 2010 till 2013... issues a stark warning: "[Europe] risks falling between the cracks."
"The EU cannot be a Great Power, nor can any of its constituent nations," he argues. "[So] the UK/EU must decide under whose sphere of influence they should shelter?
"The answer is they are likely to remain in the USA's - and within a reshaped Nato."
Thoughts?
US at ~350 million population and 9 147 420 square kilometers land area¹
EU at ~450 million population² and 3 997 838 square kilometers land area³
We have less than half the land mass to protect with a lot more population. We should really be able to build ourself a defense that isn't reliant on the US.

True at the time and will remain true until the EU federalise. We really need to start seeing ourselves as Europeans first and country second.
