A recent InSight report revealed that three of the ELN's five main fighting divisions operate from Venezuelan territory, using it for logistics, training and cross-border movement
Colombia's National Liberation Army (ELN) and dissident factions of the former FARC rebel group issued defiant statements following the U.S. military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro, framing the attack as a violation of regional sovereignty and vowing armed resistance against Washington.
In a statement released by its Eastern War Front, the ELN said that "once again U.S. imperialism violates the national sovereignty of the countries of Our America and the world," and rejected what it described as a U.S. attack on the "Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela."
The group expressed "solidarity and support for the Venezuelan people and government" and called on Latin American nations to "reject the gringo aggression, defend national sovereignty, and embrace unity and popular resistance," as Infobae reports.
Those Colombian guerillas have been hiding in the jungle for decades. When the main body of FARC surrendered in 2017, many of them had never seen a smartphone before. They've been living the asymmetric warfare life since god knows when, they would prove extremely difficult to root out.
It would be Vietnam all over again.
Yet another 20 year war the US will "win".
We don't even pretend we won in Vietnam.

It's an often repeated excuse since the US signed the Paris Peace accords and agreed to pull out of Vietnam. A US official at the time told that to his North Vietnamese counterpart. The based North Vietnamese official quipped "that may be the case, but that is irrelevant."

Hint: It wasn't America. It's never America. We haven't won an armed conflict since WWII. Guerilla Warfare is highly effective against a massive force that can't get out of its own way.

What scares me is Trump may actually "win".
By this I mean, in Vietnam the US had an interest in installing a puppet government and having another state to oppose the Soviet Union.
Trump just wants the oil fields. He's not above leveling the whole country just to ensure access to the oil fields. He's flirted with the idea of nukes before and I don't put it past him to indiscriminately nuke large swaths of the rainforest/interior of Venezuela.
He's mad enough to do it too, and his base will support him. We've known a US that commits war crimes and then tries to ignore them. We've never seen a US willing to proudly and loudly commit war crimes to achieve its goals.
Now is it a victory to render nearly half the country unliveable for decades? I personally dont think so, but Trump does and that's the issue

Except that Venezuela & Colombia are a lot closer to the US and a lot of the US population already speaks Spanish and the fact that a decent portion of the military is Hispanic.

It does actually, but against an invading army. There are reports of Russian fighters having trouble executing orders because the "enemy" also spoke Russian in some instances of the Ukraine/Russia war.
When there is a common language, the people sent to fight might notice there is more in common between them and the people on the other side than with the people in power that sent them there to die if needed.

Hint: the Colombian military speak fluent Spanish and know the territory.
They have really good counterinsurgency units that have been fighting the guerrillas for years, with material and intelligence support from the USA.
They have been unable to destroy the guerrillas. And when the current government tried to end the remaining ones via negotiation, they sprawled again and basically toke control of the Catatumbo department.
If the US military get entangled in that fight, they will lose. After killing a lot of innocent civilians in the process.

What point do you think youre making here? Everything you listed is a reason it would be tougher for the US than Afghanistan or Vietnam.
Being tougher than Afghanistan or Vietnam was the point I was trying to make. A war in Venezuela or Colombia would be even more of a quagmire than Vietnam.

Just a reminder that America has not won an armed conflict since WWII, and they have been absolutely savaged by guerilla warfare strategies in multiple conflicts.
Everybody fears the American Military, and they will do a lot of damage when they come to your neighborhood, but ultimately, they can't get out of their own way.

The US Military is setup to fight and disable entire countries, not to sustain a ground occupation contested by native guerrilla forces.
Urban warfare and the fact that native attackers can hide in civilian populations will grind any army down. There are simply too many avenues of attack in an urban environment.
The Army wants to draw a line in the ground and completely dominate one side of the line and then deploy the capability to rain death on anybody within 100+ miles of that line. They don't want to be clearing a neighborhood house to house and trying to detect every IED and ambush when any civilian could be holding a grenade or gun and any pile of rubble or trash could be an explosive.
The only way this has been avoided in modern times is when Israel completely flatted most of Palestine, killing a large amount of civilians in the process. I don't think Donald Trump would try to avoid that option.
I don't know. It's not the 1960s anymore and Afghanistan is just an area built specifically to destroy empires. I fear that the modern war machine has capabilities now that it never had in the past. 24/7 satellite surveillance and AI monitoring. Digital forensics. Drones. Control of information networks and end points. They'd disappear these leaders in an instant and be able to trace their movement for the past month if they wanted. Any leader left to lead would be someone who is hurting their fight or leading them astray because it would be who America wanted to lead their revolution.
