Gmail is entering the Gemini era

Other E-Mail providers are available.

Another solid reminder to get more accounts off of gmail.

this analysis happens securely with the privacy protections you expect from Google

At least they are sort of honest...

Not really contributing, but gmail has long been about reading your mails, harvesting the personal information and displaying ads. All the filters, "magic" sorting and algorithms are integral part of gmail for decades now. If you're still there in 2026, nobody can help you. You probably want this.

Google has been caught red handed deleting documents on drive.

I still reluctantly use gmail cause im subscribed to 500 things through it an everyone for like 20 years has that as my email address. I do not want this.

Yeah, I casually "forgot" I still have my Google account as well. Just that I moved everything away a long time ago. Mainly for privacy reasons because I didn't like any Google reading my inbox. I'll randomly log in to gmail every few years and see if it's still there... I mean it won't get any better, these things get constantly made worse. So if you can muster up the energy and time to do something, it's probably better to do it sooner rather than later. But I feel you. Subscriptions can be changed, that's just time and effort to do it. But people for 20 years is hard. I don't see any good solutions to tackle that.

its a royal cunt.

at my age (40s) honestly the people who are still around are still around. I can go through my contact list and email every single person Id ever care to hear from and tell them I have a new email address. I guess its just the worry that some long lost friend or ex or what have you will have some burning need to connect with me and wont be able to. but like.. you can find my professional profile on the internet no problem. 95% of it is laziness. fucking google :(

My gmail account is 99.999% spam. I keep it around just in case I forgot something important that was tied to it before I ditched Google a decade ago. I think 10 years is probably long enough that I don't need it anymore, but you never know and they aren't making a dime off me.

But until I can be bothered to log in and delete it, enjoy training your AI on marketing garbage you evil fucks.

Good luck Gemini dealing with mostly Spam, newsletters and marketing emails.

Here's your friendly reminder that it is completely possible and allowed to delete a gmail mailbox without otherwise damaging the google account it belongs to.

Get a new email address. Forward Gmail to the new email address. Then start changing those emails from Gmail to your new account. It took me years but I only have one or two things still going to Gmail.

took me a month or two and im fully over to proton (except for my yt channel)

This is the way

Yuck, I only have a Gmail account because of Android and just two critical accounts. Thankfully, all the toggles that turn off AI are still toggled off. Google is still trying to tempt me with Gemini, but, they can keep their trash as I don't need it!

The search option actually seems useful, assuming it works worth a shit, and like it or not, AI could fit the bill on a limited data set like one's email archives. But I'm not ever going to let AI write for me, and I won't trust what it reads for me. I hardly need a 4 sentence summary of a 4 sentence email.

Yes, other email providers are out there, but I've been neck deep in Google's ecosystem for 20 years and having a hard enough time in life without having to trash my Google Minis, Androids, 2FA, countless logins, email, on and on.

OTOH, I'm fed up with, "TRY OUR NEW AI THINGY!" Fuck me, I hit something on Google Maps navigating home and was screaming, couldn't turn it off, all while barreling down the highway. "Hey Google? EAT A BAG OF FUCKING DICKS!" "I'm sorry, I don't understand." "Hey Google, turn of the FUCKING AI!" "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that." My kids were laughing their asses off.
