The problem isn't the spheres, the problem is the use of a relative direction with a hemisphere. Even though I have since learned that someone actually came up with a generally valid definition of the "western" hemisphere, the definition of longitude 0 (prime meridian) is completely arbitrary. Wife and I were talking about this last night. If he is assassinated by another country, then that is "just cause" for war to be declared which could just allow him to impose ungodly more insane policies. If someone internal to the US kills him, media spin will be its left vs. right. We are generally in a pretty fucked situation we "let ourselves" get into.
Problem with that line of thinking is that it presumes they won't do those things anyway. If they want just cause, they just declare it. If anyone to the left in any way does anything, it's a seditious partisan act by the extreme left and very likely a justifiable use for the insurrection act.
Concerning ourselves with how they'll take things is putting our actions under their review. Preemptively bending to their will before they even express it out of fear of how they might react.

That would be an extremely bad idea considering that the UK's nuclear weapons arsenal is not land-based. The US actually ordered those troops to do anything within 15 minutes missiles could be headed to the US. Although the smarter option would be to have the subs manoeuvre to just off the US coast and then launch. Very little time to respond then.

That was never going to happen because Trump isn't some random fluke, but rather a symptom of a much greater disease. "Subtle fascism" is not a stable, sustainable state, it naturally produced Trump and even if it were somehow possible to reverse time and go back to that, it would simply produce another Trump-like figure.
There are only two possibilities: either conditions will continue to decline and we will get increasingly overt fascism, or we make radical changes to fix those conditions. Socialism or barbarism. Maintaining or returning to the status quo is not viable.

That's because France has a highly unionized workforce, and a population that will riot in the streets of the president so much as sneezes wrong.
It's not about principles or morals, it's that the material realities for labor in the US are very different. Not to mention, this general strike date was chosen in 2023.

Beyond labor, the No Kings protests were, numerically, some of the largest in US history. They didn't do much, on their own, but things like that are great for networking and pulling people into more granular organizing.
Not to mention that, beyond your average suburban liberal mom, peripheral parts of the American population (ie. Black, indigenous, immigrant, and queer communities) are very active, via various mutual aid campaigns, resistance to ICE etc.

The government absolutely needs taxes. It's the primary source of income for federal, state, and local governments.
You have to pay interest on debt or else you default. If you default no one will give you more debt. If you're in debt and can't get more debt then there's a problem.

State and local governments certainly need tax revenue to fund themselves. But our federal government does not. The US government controls the dollar, prints our currency, and can create all it wants. Federal taxes are used to pull money back out of circulation to keep the system in balance, so that the value of the dollar isn't diluted. Not paying federal taxes would eventually create a situation painful for everyone. If the feds keep up spending, the dollar becomes worthless with too much money in circulation. They cut spending to try to keep the value up, then large chunks of the economy grind to a halt. Neither situation is good. If everyone's faith in the value of the US dollar falters, the economy here falls apart. The wealthy can partly weather it, but the middle class and poor will be screwed.
But our federal government does not.
